Under 13s Dominate in Cup Final

Under 13s Dominate in Cup Final

Matt Bond7 Apr - 08:57

A powerful and skillfully Bracknell Under 13s side take victory in Berkshire Cup Final Report by Tom Brown

On finals day the sun was shining and the coaches looked sober so that was a good start. The boys looked pumped and maybe the lessons from Windsor and the semi final had landed.

Newbury kicked off and that was the start of their problems…straight into the hands of Charlie who took the ball at speed and beat several defenders on the touch to score within seconds - 1-0.

With both teams passing well, Bracknell spun the ball out through the back line and not long after Braxton powered over for the second try. A good start!

It stayed that way for a while, some good running from Kayden in the centre and the forwards cleaning out at the breakdown with James acting at scrum half to get the ball out quickly. Great scrummaging from Bracknell setup and good platform for George M to power over straight after coming on.

The game stayed close with the Blues breaking through only for Max W at fullback to make a try saving tackle on their biggest player. A few plays later and Freddie C spun the ball out to Freddy B who dummied in the centre of the pitch and went through to beat the fullback…4-0.

More pressure from Bracknell saw a penalty and captain Will smashed through the defensive line and fended off countless would be tacklers to make it 5-0.

Newbury to their credit kept coming and with no subs they continued to play, coming close down the wing until Freddy B chopped down an attack. But they kept coming and scored just before half time to make it 5-1.

The second half saw Bracknell pack dominated with big hits from Max S and runs from Harry and Bailey. Oscar helped the scrum dominated and soon Newbury were forced to kick…unfortunately for them, to Riley who with his first touch, put the afterburners on and ran half the length of the pitch to score.

Some huge defence from the Bracknell boys followed, including a three man hit on Newbury trying to run the ball out from their own line. Next play George M showed his strength and crashed through for Bracknell.

Tries were coming fast now and this time it was George W’s turn, taking on half the Newbury team single handedly to score in the corner…now if you score a try like that you are aloud to wear those sunglasses to collect your award!

Thomas joined the battle and got stuck in with Charlie going over again only to be disallowed by a toe in touch. Soon after there was just time for Riley to make another blistering break from fullback, this time stepping through the defence to score.

In the end it was a one sided affair, totally dominated by Bracknell. Well done to them and the coaches for getting them in the zone.

George W and Riley stepped up on the day, with MOTM performances. ?️
