On Sunday 9th February, Bracknell Under 13s hosted a pair of friendlies at Lilly Hill Park. The U13s squad took on local rivals Reading RFC, while the Development Squad took on West-London's Grasshoppers RFC
The U13s kicked off proceedings and put on a show for the framilies and friends on the sidelines. Having come off a resounding victory against Newbury the previous week, Bracknell continued their good form. Dominance in defence, brilliance in attack and control at the set piece, were the foundations of Bracknells game play. The forward pack asserted dominance in the contest area, while the backs showed pace and precision out wide. Some ill discipline, and three yellow cards, couldnt derail the Bracknell freight train, that went on to score 10 tries in the match. Reading kept their heads high throughout, and even with the gaping scoreline, played some good rugby, to test the Bracknell players, and were unluky not to cross the try line on more than one occassion. A fine Bracknell performance showing a growing confidence and ability within the U13s squad.
The second kick off of the day saw the Development squad take on a strong Grasshoppers team. After coming close to victory agianst Newbury in the cup, Bracknell looked to improve once more, and put on a good performance. Throughout the match, Bracknell looked the far more capable, structured and disciplined of the two sides. Good oragnistaion from breakdown to breakdown, clear commmunications and accurate passers came from the lads in green. The attack made progress and the defence batted hard all day. Mistakes crept in and allowed Grasshoppers to take control of the match, and some break away scores gave them a flattering scoreline. Bracknell should have broken through and over the try line on multiple occassions, but just couldnt get the final pass away or step inside to score. The final whistle was blown, and the Bracknell lads held their heads high, with another solid performance. From the start of the season to now, the development squad has moved on leaps and bounds, with many players now pushing for starting positions in the U13s squad.
